Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" now has the most weeks at No. 1 in Hot 100 history
Twenty-three weeks, one more than Mariah Carey's Christmas classic. How a country song got there, and why the record may not stay put.
Compiled from reporting by Stereogum, Consequence and NPR, checked on 1 October 2026. Figures are as of the Hot 100 dated 26 September.
Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" is now the longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. On the chart dated 26 September, announced on 22 September, the song logged its 23rd week at the top, one more than the 22 weeks held by Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You".
A slow climb, then a long stay
The song came out in October 2025 and first reached No. 1 in February. Its weeks at the top are not consecutive, but the current run is long on its own: it began on the chart dated 4 July and has now lasted 12 straight weeks. In late August it tied the record for a song that isn't about Christmas, 19 weeks, shared by Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)".
The numbers underneath are just as lopsided. According to NPR, the song has also spent 23 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's streaming chart and 18 weeks atop Digital Song Sales. Consequence counts more than 1.6 billion global streams and 2.8 billion views on TikTok, and reports that it is the longest-running No. 1 in UK country radio history, with Langley the first country artist in more than two decades to top the UK Singles Chart.
It has even kept her own music in check. Her album Dandelion debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and its single "Be Her" peaked at No. 2, held off by "Choosin' Texas". In the record-breaking week, "Be Her" sat at No. 10.
Why this song
NPR's Stephen Thompson pointed to several things at once: the quality of the song, country fans moving to streaming, a weak year for pop, the algorithms and steady sales. He also noted that it "feels surprisingly full-grown for the top of a chart so frequently dominated by youthful pop earworms."
Will the record last?
Possibly not for long. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has returned to No. 1 every holiday season since 2019, adding weeks each time. Stereogum's Tom Breihan expects Carey to win the record back eventually, calling it "a situation that will likely continue unless Billboard changes its chart-tabulation rules."
Langley, meanwhile, is on the road, with dates at Red Rocks on 7 October, Tulsa on 9 October and two nights at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on 13 and 14 October.
