The Weeknd played his first solo concerts in Indonesia, bringing the After Hours Til Dawn Tour to Jakarta International Stadium on 26 and 27 September. Reviews agree the show itself delivered. Getting in and out of JIS was another story.

The show

On the first night he came on at around 9pm, a few minutes behind the promoter's 8.50pm schedule, opening with "Baptized in Fear". According to iNews and CNN Indonesia, the set took in "Starboy", "Save Your Tears", "Die For You" and "Call Out My Name", and he closed with "Moth to a Flame". CNN counted roughly 40 songs; RRI and Female Daily put the first night at 42. The staging was built around a rotating, 12-metre gold "Sexy Robot" statue by the Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, with lasers and flame throwers, and at one point he came down from the stage to sing with fans in the front row. During "Out of Time" he handed his microphone to a fan holding a sign asking to sing it, then hugged her, and on the second night he added a "São Paulo" and "Tokyo Drift" mashup that had not been played the night before.

Between songs, he was in a warm mood. "You made me fall in love with you this week. You really made me fall in love with this city," he told the crowd, as quoted by RRI. CNN Indonesia and iNews reported him recalling that his last visit to Indonesia had been to Bali, and promising to come back to Jakarta as soon as he could.

The wait

CNN Indonesia's reviewer praised the immersive visuals but was blunt about the rest of the night, criticising long waits and the traffic and access problems around JIS, and hoping future concerts would spare fans both. Antara reported similar complaints about crowded exits and poor public transport links, as well as a main screen that failed during the show. It is a familiar complaint for stadium shows in the city; our first concert guide has practical advice on getting home when everyone leaves at once.

How it came together

The dates were announced in May by TEM Presents and Live Nation, as part of an Asian leg that began in Tokyo on 20 September. The tour celebrates the trilogy of After Hours (2020), Dawn FM (2022) and Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025). Official prices ran from Rp950,000 for CAT 6 to Rp12.7 million for Ultimate VIP, before tax and fees. His only previous Indonesian appearance was headlining Djakarta Warehouse Project in Bali in 2018.

The tour moves on to Singapore on 2 and 3 October, then Seoul, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, where a second night on 5 November was added because of demand, according to Bandwagon. JIS, meanwhile, hosts Avenged Sevenfold on 10 October, with Isyana Sarasvati and St. Loco opening.
